Our modest two-chair beauty shop has an impressive history. Gibbs Barber Shop was originally owned by Gilbert Westbrook and was the first barber shop we know that operated in our space. Westbrook sold the business to Iver Kalbacken who ran the shop from 1957 until 1962 when he retired and was greatly missed by the community. The shop was taken over by Don Hufford until Flagstad Flowers opened here in 1970. Following a forty-year hiatus in the beauty trade, we are honored to bring the shop back to life with our 2016 opening.
The current proprietor, Alice Ezrow, has worked in the salon industry in the Madison area since 2001 and has been working in the neighborhood since 2007. The east side of Madison is her home and she is excited to become the next part of history in this great space.
Alice Ezrow started working in the salon industry as a receptionist when she was 17. She always knew the beauty industry was her calling and proves that with 14 years of experience. She has worked at several top salons in Madison and for MAC Cosmetics. After she began freelancing, opening her own brick and mortar was the next logical step. She loves all things beauty but specializes in curly hair, formal styling, and make-up. Her passion for her career and love for her clients are evident in everything she does. Listening to her clients and providing the best services to fit who they are is her top priority. Alice hopes you find a beauty home in her chair and always feel your best when leaving Midwest Beauty House.
Robyn started her hair career in 2004, but she’s been obsessing about hair since the 80’s after seeing a green mohawk with foot-long liberty spikes. After four years as a graphic designer, she realized that sitting at a desk was not for her. Hair was always something she had been attracted to, so she traded her laptop for a pair of shears and never looked back. She has been blessed to be trained by some truly talented mentors in cutting, coloring, barbering, and extensions. Known as “Miss Robyn” by many of her favorite clients and friends, she is the perfect combination of midwest sweetness and big city sass. Long flowing layers, soft balayage highlights, fashion punk colors, high and tight fades, textured pixie cuts, clean bobs, she loves them all.
Ashley has been in the beauty industry since December 2012 when she graduated from Madison College for Cosmetology. She was greatly inspired by her mother who has been a licensed nail technician since 2002. Ashley enjoys experimenting with many different kinds of nail art including hand-painted designs, foil, glitter, stamping and decals. If you can dream it, she’ll help you make that design happen. In 2014, she became a CND certified shellac professional and prides herself on continuing education. Ashley is known for her sweet smile, darling taste, and passion for a perfect polish. Your nails will never look better.
