A Note From Alice

May 15th, 2018

Hi, beautiful MBH family –

Can we all just say, “thank God it’s finally spring!” It sure felt like a long winter with all the snow in April, but the sunshine we’ve been waiting for is finally upon us. Summer is always a busy season for us at the little MBH shop, so we wanted to give you a heads-up on some changes we’re making, as well as some exciting milestones that are coming up this season.

Midwest Beauty House will be two-years-old on June 1! WEE! We can’t believe how fast the time has passed. We are happy to report that our “big fat baby business” (as Robyn and I have started calling it) is doing well and thriving thanks to you!

Robyn and I have business coming out of our ears and Ashley’s amazing nail art game has built her a super lovely following of rad gal’s that appreciate her as an artist and a kick-ass nail tech. Denise is also impressing the masses with her mad cutting and coloring skills. The short cuts she’s been turning out lately blow me away, and her painting technique with color leaves me a little breathless—not gonna lie, I’ve got a bit of a girl crush.

We can’t thank you enough for your loyalty to our business and the support and friendship you’ve given us. Your friendship, encouragement and support are what make our profession so fulfilling. I can’t imagine a better life than the one I have right now—living my dream from our magical little triangle with all of you.

With this growth comes some family housekeeping and a little maintenance, so we’ll be making some changes at MBH.

As of May 1, my hours have changed. My new schedule is as follows:

  • Monday-Wednesday – 9am-3pm
  • Thursday and Friday – 2pm-9pm
  • Saturdays – open for special event and wedding work

I’m still learning the art of balance two years into business ownership. Wanting to be the best I can for all my clients while taking care of the needs of my staff means I need to make some tough decisions. Shorter shifts doing hair will allow me to stay on time and be my best behind the chair, but it will also give me a few hours a day to manage and grow my business. I’m confident this change will also provide me some much-needed time to enjoy the things I love outside of work.

Along with this decision came another tough realization—even though I love everyone that sits in my chair, my schedule has gotten too congested and difficult to maintain while running a business. The following changes will take place as of June 1:

  • I will be raising my cut pricing by $5.00
  • All my short cuts will now be $50.00
  • I will be limiting new clients and referrals
  • I will be eliminating the barber cut price I have been giving some of you for a long time, but if you’re already on my schedule for June, I will honor my old barber pricing until July

Please keep in mind that Denise offers short cuts for $30.00 and I would be happy to schedule appointments with her during a time that I am able to talk through your cut with her. I don’t want to lose my time with any of you, but need to make these changes for my own wellbeing and for the health and livelihood of my business. I certainly plan to maintain some of my time behind the chair, it will simply be less time as I move my little business into the next phase!

I hope that you continue to choose MBH as your beauty/barber home—I still want to see your lovely faces come through my doors! Please do continue to refer our little beauty shop, but talk-up Denise! She is a lovely, hard-working fantastic artist who is new to Madison, so let’s help her build her business with that love and support I’ve seen (personally) from all of you! She’s been doing hair for 13 years and I promise she is just as committed to taking good care of you as I am. As a thank you for your loyalty, I will be offering 50% off one styling product when you book with Denise in May or June.

Robyn has been working hard, as always, and will also be increasing her cuts by $5.00. I think we can all agree that she deserves it!

This was a hard letter for me to write. Those of you who know me well, know I want to be and do it all. It’s hard for me to think about losing my time with some of you who I’ve had relationships with for years. Please know that I value those relationships and greatly appreciate the support you have given me throughout my career.

Thank you for helping to make my dreams come true and for understanding the changes we’re making during this new season of growth. Happy spring everyone—don’t forget to get out there and smell the roses.

So much love,

Alice
