This Valentine’s Day, Celebrate Yourself

Bae. Your Ride-Or-Die. Who’s been there for you your whole life, through thick and thin, questionable fashion choices, witnessed those awkward teenage years first-hand and got you through heartaches and breakups? Who shares your interests and thinks all the things you like are the best? Seems like Valentine’s Day is a great time to remind that unique, one-of-a-kind person how awesome they are. How? By taking care of yourself and getting into the habit of practicing self-care. Self-care might seem antithetical to the whole premise of Valentine’s Day, but that person we just described? That’s you! So, yeah, do it up for your crush or sweetie or whatever on V-Day, but don’t forget to show yourself some love, too. After all, you’ve been through a lot together. And if history can perform as an indicator for possible future events, it’s safe to say that this is one situation that won’t be changing anytime soon. So, when you’re ready to engage in some self-care, consider how Midwest Beauty House can help you to achieve that goal. For many of our clients, MBH serves as their go-to spot for their self-care regimen. When here, they’re not just availing themselves of our beauty services, they’re building resilience, boosting their confidence, ridding their body and mind of toxic stress, and making a commitment to their personal well-being. Midwest Beauty House believes in the transformative power of self-care – check out the stories below to see how we’re helping our clients live their best lives.

“Receiving beauty services is a way for me to check in with myself – to take stock. I work at Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center and oftentimes, whether I like it or not, the work comes home with me. Sitting in Alice’s chair or getting my nails done by Ashley is a way for me to relax and reflect. It’s somewhat meditative for me. I put myself into the hands of someone I trust and am confident that I will be more than happy with the outcome.”

“Receiving beauty services is a way for me to take care of my body, a.k.a. the vessel that takes me through so much of my day, from advocating for LGBTQ+ young people to demanding that police be removed from Madison’s public schools to weightlifting and the demands it places on my body. It’s an important, gentle thing I do for myself — to allow someone else to create a beautiful hairstyle for me.”

“Working from home can be lonely, so my biweekly nail appointments are a fun opportunity to take a walk through the Atwood neighborhood and have a chat with Ashley. It’s a small thing, but having fun nails brightens any outfit and it helps me to feel put together every day of the week.”

“Regularly getting a haircut keeps me feeling collected and confident. Maintaining or updating your appearance and style (whatever they may be) seems to be very connected to how we feel about ourselves.”

“We love being the place where clients can spend a few hours of their life —  talking to us, telling us what’s happening in their world, getting restored. They leave feeling better, so they can go out there and live their best lives. It’s what building a Better Beauty Culture is all about.”
