The Importance of Sunscreen

Well, it's May again and you know what that means...I rant about SPF!

Here are some of my favorite sunscreen facts:

  1. All sunscreens work by absorbing harmful wavelengths of radiation, thus preventing it from damaging the skin.

  2. Sunburns, particularly in childhood, significantly increases the risk of skin cancers such as melanoma.

  3. UVA contributes to skin cancer, skin aging and can penetrate through windows and clouds. It's very important to have broad spectrum coverage (both UVA and UVB) in your sunscreen.

  4. Sunscreen is the most important cosmetic product to invest in. No serum or moisturizer will provide as much anti aging benefit as preventing excessive sun exposure.

  5. The best sunscreen is the one you will use everyday.

With so many options, it can be a bit time consuming to find that perfect SPF for your skin but, trust me, it's well worth it! I’ve shared some of my favorite products HERE!

There is literally no excuse not to wear sunscreen everyday, unless you're some kind of nocturnal troll that never leaves their cave but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be reading this then :)

And remember to get to the dermatologist if you see anything suspicious crop up, the earlier the better!
