WE ARE CHANGEMAKERS

As the world faces a serious global climate change crisis, it’s important – now more than ever – to stand up together and make change happen.

We, at MBH, have taken the next steps in improving our recycling systems to minimize our carbon footprint and better our planet–we’ve joined the Green Circle family! Green Circle has over 16,000 members across North America who are making an impact–one bag of beauty waste at a time! Together, we can make beauty sustainable!

WHAT IS GREEN CIRCLE SALONS?

Green Circle Salons, created by Founder and CEO, Shane Price, alongside beauty industry leaders, this award-winning program empowers salons to offset their emissions and recover up to 95% of their beauty waste. That includes previously unrecoverable materials and hard-to-recycle items like hair clippings, foils, excess hair color, aerosol cans, and color tubes.

Their goal is to help salons and spas be green, build revenue, gain clients, and save money in a way that’s ethical and simple. They do that while also ensuring their own operations and practices are carbon neutral and sustainable. They are certified by B Corp to acknowledge that they meet the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility.

  • The beauty industry creates 877lbs of waste per minute.

  • 1,284,437lbs of beauty waste was kept out of landfills and waterways by Green Circle Salon Members last year.

  • 85,800 kWh of clean energy was generated Waste to Energy last year. That is enough to power 94 homes for a month or charge over 7,000,000 smartphones.

  • 47 metric tons of Co2e was avoided by keeping 157 metric tons of single-use waste (hair color, single-use items, PPE) out of the landfill. That is the same as taking 10 cars off the road for a year.

what is an eco fee?

In short, it’s a fee that is added to each service ticket to properly dispose of beauty waste from our salon. The fee will be the same for all service tickets (no matter if you have one service or multiple services booked for the same date). The service fee is $3.00 per service ticket and will be added to all service tickets as of 8/1/2023.

Why the eco fee?

The beauty industry is the 3rd largest creator of waste in the world! 62,000 pounds of hair go into the landfill EVERY DAY in North America alone! Over 200 pounds of excess hair color goes down the drain into our lakes, rivers & oceans every year on average for a 6 stylist salon. And let’s not forget about those foils and potential spa waste.

Take your vehicle, for example, when you get the oil changed in your car you are charged an eco fee to dispose of the old oil safely. This is exactly what we are doing, but with your beauty waste instead! We are proud to be one of the almost 5,000 salons and spas in North America that are taking charge and doing something to impact positive change in the world and the climate crisis.

Thank you so much for your help in saving our planet!

In 2019, Green Circle Salons achieved a Zero Waste to Landfill Certification through the Carbon Trust Standard. Zero waste to landfill means that no non-hazardous waste is sent to the landfill or for incineration without energy recovery.
